Brechin fought hard for a victory against 10-man Arbroath at Glebe Park

The home side opened the scoring after 24 minutes when Kevin Byers rounded the keeper after good work by Ian Nimmo.

Arbroath faced an uphill battle when Paul Tosh was red carded for a tirade at the linesman, but Scott Gates got the 10 men back in the game with the equaliser after 57 minutes. But second-half sub Smith netted a double to seal all three points for Brechin.

Arbroath's Paul Lunan almost equalised with a contentious header before team-mate Paul Tosh was dismissed and Brechin's Ian Diack had a goal chopped off.

Scott Gates's shot equalised after half-time before a Calum Smith strike restored Brechin's lead, and the sub then drove in another to seal the win.
