Solid performance, and cruising

cruiseNice fresh, mild afternoon at Gayfield as the Lichties sought to overcome recent glitches in home results.  Macca and Caddis started with Samuel and Doris up front

Dumbarton started the more purposeful and after about 5 minutes their Gilhaneyr drifted into the edge of the bix unchallenged and fired a great shot which rebounded off the bar, some players and away fans claiming it crossed the line

Somewhat against the run of play our first real bit of pressure saw Caddis float  in a wicked ball to which Innes got his head on and it sneaked into the far post.  3 minutes late Caddi ran down the right and floated a great cross for Doris to hang superbly in the air and nod into the net.  Later in the half, Malcolm's header from a corner came back off the bar

Thereafter Dumbarton ran out of energy and ideas - maybe due to a tough midweek fixture.  Second half we sat back a bit more until the game opened up late on and we could and maybe should ahve taken at least two of the chances. Keeper Grindlay made a couple of fantastic saves.

As comfortable an afternoon we'd had in recent months and we;re now 10 points ahead of Dumbarton in 3rd place

BBC:   Arbroath extended their unbeaten run to 11 games with a straightforward 2-0 win over third-placed Dumbarton.

After Mark Gilhaney had blazed an early chance for the Sons over the crossbar, two goals in three first-half minutes put the home side firmly in control.

First, Liam Caddis crossed from the left-hand side for Chris Innes to meet 12 yards out and stroke the ball into the bottom-left corner after 23 minutes.

It was 2-0 when Caddis again crossed - this time from the right - and Steven Doris headed in for his 17th goal of the season.

Stuart Malcolm headed over when well-placed as Arbroath looked to extend their lead and they easily saw off the lacklustre visitors.
