No cutting edge at Broadwood

Last updated : 05 December 2009 By Fargone

Injuries meant a makeshift lineup this afternoon at a very damp and uninviting Broadwood.  Redman on the right and Flyer on the left were the fullbacks with Ratrray and Rennie in the middle.   A decent midfield of Gibson, Lunan, Doris and Sellars with Ross up front on the left and Scott leading the attack.   Around 40-50 hardy Lichite fans were among the 522 crowd

cutting edgeThe first half saw longish spells with either team on the offensive. Clyde started the better and half threatened our goal on a number of occasions.  Arbroath had a few sporadic attack - a great Sellars' volley from a fine Scott cross after 15 minutes bringing out a good save from their keeper.  Sellars tried a longrange lob which dipped just over.  Scott looked lively up frontbut couldn't get a clear sight of goal.

As halftime tiem approach, Arbroath looked to have contained the limited threat from Clyde and were playing a discplined game in slightly difficult conditions.   But a foul by Redman out left in line with the 18 yard line allowed a great cross into  crowded box by Mclachlan whioch drifted over the jostling bodies into the far corner of the net.  A real downer

broadwoodThere was little to choose between the sides and everything to play for.  Clyde won a few corners and breakaways but as the game wore on Arbroath took more control and started carving out opportunities.   First Gates was in and perhaps not positive enough to shoot, Gibson had a couple of longer range efforts,  a great chance near the end saw Milne running on to receive the ball in the box but couldn't control it. AT the death Rattray won the header but the keeper saved well.

This was not a bad Arbroath performance  but we sadly a lacked a cutting edge and deserved at least a point.  However two poor teams were on show an Clyde took this relegation 6pointer - our second defeat to them so far this season

The fans were left frustrated

Confidence-boosting win for Clyde

Clyde moved to within a point of relegation rivals Arbroath with a 1-0 win in a bottom-of-the-table clash.

New manager John McCormack was given a winning start by his side, who were indebted to goalkeeper Callum Reidford's superb last-minute save.

The home side made a bright start and went close through Lee Graham after just four minutes, but his header went just over the crossbar.

Arbroath hit back and Reidford was on hand to keep out Barry Sellars' volley, with Robbie Ross and Keith Gibson both going close for the visitors.

Clyde opened the scoring just before half-time when Willie McLachlan curled in a free-kick that evaded everyone in the box and crept home.

That proved to be enough for McCormack's side, who held on for a vital win.
