Humbled by a mediocre Montrose

The final whistle at Links Park this afternoon sounded to an almost deserted Arbroath part of the ground. Most away fans had drifted away depressed and dejected much earlier as another horror show unfolded

This was Montrose's first win in the past 10 derbies so statistically way overdue. The away contingent was strangely quiet before and during the game - reflecting growing dissatisfaction among the Lichtie faithful about the fare on offer.

Montrose were nothing special today but did look more up for the game from the start so won most of the 50-50s. They scored virtually every time they organised a serious attack yet the balance of play was fairly even throughout. We were undone by a cataolgue of defensive errors. From the 16th minute a hamrless nothing forward ball, which keeperWight shouited was his, bounced over his head into the net. Then a free kick was parried on to an oncoming attacker. even the fourth, just before halftime was dire - the freekick going right through the defensive wall

The Lichites brought on three subs at haltime and tried to make a game of it. We knew it wasn't to be our day as Scott was injured then booked, as Peat made one great save4 and as another effort came off their bar

That makes 14 goals conceded in 3 recent games interspersed with wins at Elgin and East Fife. Something is not right and needs sorted. Exactly what that is is not clear but we are falling adrift of the playoff spot

A dire day for all Lichties but just one of those aberrations?
