After one of the most controversial weeks in Elgin City's history and with Arbroath on a fine run of form, this was always going to be a tough test for the Black and Whites.

Club captain Jamie McKenzie took the reigns for today's match and also managed to get himself on the score-sheet.

Elgin started the brighter and took the lead after 25 minutes. Adam Nelson's corner found Jamie McKenzie on the edge of the box, who chipped the ball back into the area and Alan Muir was on hand to head home.

Arbroath's best chance in the first-half fell to Jay Stein. Pat Clarke's flick on was met on the volley by Stein, but he could only watch as the keeper tipped it wide.

Elgin started the second-half as they finished the first-half and doubled their lead after only eight minutes. Mark Booth found himself one-on-one with Mark Peat, his shot was saved but Jamie McKenzie was on hand to head into an empty net.

Arbroath pushed everyone forward in a bid to try and grab something from the game, but Jay Stein and Alan Brazil both squandered good chances late on in the game. Caretaker-boss Jamie McKenzie declared himself delighted with his first win in charge.
