McBride sinks Smokies

Scott McBride struck the decisive goal against his old club in a 2-1 home victory for East Fife against Arbroath.

The Fifers midfielder hit the post from the edge of the area after three minutes as the hosts made a bright start.

Billy Brown's men then took the lead when Robert Barr supplied the pass for Sean Jamieson to open his goalscoring account for the season with a 13th-minute finish.

The Red Lichties equalised two minutes before half-time however, midfielder Paul Currie deflecting Steven Doris' effort into the back of the net to notch his sixth goal of the season.

The home side regained their advantage two minutes after the interval when McBride found the top corner with a thunderous 25-yard strike.

Currie almost levelled for the second time moments later, but his right-footed shot rattled the crossbar, as Paul Sheerin's men extended their winless away run to seven games.
