Early dominance earns deserved win on dreaded plastic

Trying to escape from our recent abysmal run, more changes were apparant in the starting lineup with Scott and Sellars as the front two, Redman back in midfield.

On a warm sunny afternoon, Arbroath started the game positively, passing well in the middle and swinging a few incisive daigonal passes over the Alloa defence to work openings. Unusually we were using the plastic pitch better.

No real chances created until the halfhour mark when the Alloa keepr was struggling to clear a McCaffrey corner, Dobbo worked the ball free and shot hitting the Alloa defender on the goalline. He blocked a clear goal but protested vehemently at the sending off.

Soon after a lovely flowing move down he left saw Scott pass a great ball into Sellars with the goal at his mercy and inexplicably he hit it wide.

After halftime, playing downhill, Arbroath sat back and Alloa looked to have the extra player. However our defence stood firm and Hill's was not seriously threatened. Hislop came on for Scott, Flyer for Lunan, and Ross for Sellars

As Alloa pressed forward, careful balls forward started finding gaps but ther was a succession of missed chances from Hislop, Ross and others

At one point we started the nonsense of timewasting in the corners. it was a tense finish non more so when Alloa hit the top of the corssbar in the final minute

Overall this was a decent and discplined performance against the joint league leaders. Defence looked solid, the midfield had more of the ball and we created quite a few chances going forward.
