Ayr `got lucky'

From the Sunday Mail:  Ayr 2 Arbroath 0

HONEST Mark Roberts admitted Ayr got lucky as goals from Kevin Kyle and Adam Hunter nicked victory.

Former Scotland striker Kyle’s first goal for 10 months on the stroke of the interval – heading home a Scott McLaughlin corner – came after Arbroath had dominated.

And Arbroath’s Lee Erwin had a second-half strike ruled out for offside before Hunter’s deflected drive with 16 minutes left killed them off.

Gaffer Roberts said: “We were so poor in the first half and got a lucky shut-out but I’ll take playing badly and winning 2-0.”

Arbroath player-boss Paul Sheerin said: “It just didn’t happen for us but we didn’t play badly.”
