Wasteful first half, asleep second

asleepIt was heavy cloud overhead and a strange dull atmosphere around Gayfield at the start of the second half yesterday.   halftime talk was how we had turned it around well and were slicing Stenny open with fast attacks .. probably should have been ahead

.  but we hardly crossed the halfway line until we were 3 behind.  Our midfield became invisible and our defence overpowered.. Gemmel had moved to the left and was winning the battle against Banjo and they had willing runners in behind.

The amazing thing was we managed to score in two of the few second-half forays into their half.

Sunday Mail  Arbroath 3 Stenhousemuir 4

JOHN GEMMELL netted a spectacular overhead kick as Stenhousemuir grabbed the points.

The midfielder scored a clinical third for Stenny with Bryan Hodge, Sean Higgins and Sean Dickson also on target for the visitors.

But Arbroath, who’d made it 1-1 in the first half through Lee Erwin, made a game of it with late goals from Colin Hamilton and Alan Cook. The home side also had a string of penalty claims turned down.

But Arbroath boss Paul Sheerin said: “You shouldn’t lose when you score three at home.”
