Moore’s men brushed off the challenge of derby rivals Montrose last weekend with a convincing 3-1 win, which came hot on the heels after victories over Berwick, Albion Rovers and Queen’s Park.

The Lichties are sitting pretty at the top of the table and Moore is full of praise for his charges.

He said: “The players have worked really hard and bought into what we’re trying to do. Their fitness levels have improved and we have been looking more solid at the back.

“We prepare for the matches well and give the players all the information they need about the opposition but credit must go to them for carrying the instruction out on the pitch where it matters.

“The boys we have brought in have all fitted in well with the squad. We now have competition for places and no-one is guaranteed a starting spot. They know if they don’t perform there is someone there who can come in and take their place.

“We will enjoy it while we can but we know there are more challenges to come and I’m sure we can do even better.”

Moore was concerned about the defence leaking goals before the league season kicked off but with only two goals against in four games, he is pleased they have tightened up.

“I wasn’t happy to lose a goal against Montrose at the weekend but I must say our defending has generally been a lot better. It’s not just the guys at the back, we have been defending better as a team.

“I know when I was in this league with Stirling Albion that if you can have a solid defence then that gives you a good platform to build on.

“Overall I’m delighted with the attitude and determination of the players.

“We are all now looking forward to our next game at home against East Fife and hopefully we can get another three points and another good performance.”
