Hamilton agrees to join Arbroath

MUCH-TRAVELLED PLAYER ON WAY TO GAYFIELD

ARBROATH manager Paul Sheerin has agreed a deal to bring former Aberdeen and Hearts forward Jim Hamilton to Gayfield.

Man of many clubs Hamilton, 34, has agreed to join the club on a one-year deal and was due to complete the formalities of the deal last night.

Sheerin was delighted to bring in the targetman, who he has been trying to sign for more than a week.  He said: “We’ve spoken to Jim and we’re hopeful everything will be completed.

“I tried to sign him last week but we couldn’t come to an agreement. I was disappointed as I felt his presence was what we were missing in the Challenge Cup tie at Dunfermline on Saturday.

“I spoke to my chairman after the game and he told me to go and get Jim and I’m delighted has agreed to come.

“We have the papers all ready for him to sign and if everything goes through he will be in the squad for Saturday’s League Cup tie at Dunfermline.”

Peterhead-born Hamilton begin his career at Keith and finished last season by winning the first medal of his career after helping Livingston win the Third Division title.

The Red Lichties will become his 12th senior club and Sheerin believes the forward will add some much needed experience to his attacking options.

He said: “Jim has the experience we are lacking up front. He can score goals, hold the ball up and is good in the air, and I am sure he will do well for us.”
