What's Going Wrong?

We played well enough at New Bayview 3 weeks ago but the last 3 games have been a real dose of reality. The enforced absence of Bary Sellars doesn't account for the turnaround. We've gone from a solid, promising outfit to a sluggish shambles. WHY?

to get the ball rolling, here's some reasons

1. The players collectivly are not sharp enough - the last two games, we've generally come a poor second in terms of winning individual battles. We seem to be slow in the challenge, failing to press when necessary and losing out to second balls

One manifestation of this is that yesterday, against Brechin, they must have taken at least 3 short corners while our players were still positioning themselves. At Stenny, the first goal was mainly due to lack of concentration

2. We have two many big lumbering players so, while we win balls in the air, we seem to be struggling against neat and nippy frontplay. Gibson apart, other teams have bested us in midfield

3. The tactics: Hislop is showing he can lead the attack well but he doesn;t have the pace to work on his own. He needs good support around him. Doris who was excpetional in his spell last season, had been bogged down in the middle rather than allow to create out wide. Above all the reliance on the attacking fullbacks Rennie and McCulloch/flyer only takes us so far. We've been overcautious especially in the home game yesterday - Brechin had the bulk of territory throughout the game

4. Poor skills - the number of poor passes especially final passes into the box has been minimal. A decent Watson cross allowed Raeside's header so we need more of that

5. Attitude?

What's your view? Still time to turn it around before we're dragged into a relegation battle
