"we need to be mentally tough"

ARBROATH manager John McGlashan told his players, "We need to be bold and brave, to have more self-belief," after they squandered a deserved half-time lead in their 2-1 defeat at Alloa.

We gave them a sloppy equaliser—there were two or three chances to clear—and that gave them a lifeline," said manager John McGlashan who acknowledged that Forrest's winner for Alloa was a well-taken goal.

"Two or three times we have failed to hold on to a lead and press home our advantage. I feel it all comes down to our own mental toughness. We get ourselves into a good position then seem to get tentative and fearful of making a mistake that will let the opposition back into the game.

"Top players never believe they are playing second fiddle and that is what I am trying to instil in our players. We have played everyone in the division and there is not one team that has utterly dominated us.

"There is no point in doing the hard work then being cautious and retreating, worrying about what might happen. That is what is happening and it is not working, so I want the players to be brave and continue to do the things that got them into the lead in the first place.

If they make a mistake doing that I will not blame them. We need to toughen up mentally."
