Strong home performance earns the points

Decent afternoon for football at Gayfield at last.  Arbroath played some decent football especially the latter stages of the first half and most of the second.   Annan were their usual muscular selves and were allowed leeway by lenient officials - however the home team was the only one playing football.

The game should have ended about 5-1 as we squandered good chances from first minute to last.  As it happened, a Craig Watson header from a  superb Ramsay freeekick just after the break and then a Linn goal from a  comical clearance by the Annan kereper (though given as a defender's own goal  - put us in control.   But we missed even more chances thereafter and were punished when Watson handled in our area in the dying minutes allowing Weatherson his customary strike against us

Overall this was a fairly energetic and controlled perfromance by the Lichties.  We started with a fairly offensive shape with both Rutherford and Skelly upfront supported by Linn and Ramsay.  Our defence held firm throughout, with impressive surges forward by both our fullbacks. Whatley had an imposing game in the middle and Rutherford was always a threat up front

Promising.. but it would be nice to convert more chances
