ARBROATH boss John McGlashan has called on his players to turn their away form into positive home results after seeing them produce another strong display away to high-flying opposition, this time STIRLING ALBION.

Arbroath took the lead twice in the first half against the table-topping Binos and were able to bag an equal share of the points come the final whistle.

The Lichties took the lead after just seven minutes thanks to an excellent Bryan Scott header before Stirling levelled four minutes later through a Scott Robertson header.

Scott nodded Arbroath ahead again on 15 minutes, but the Binos' David McKenna headed home their second equaliser on 33 minutes to ensure a share of the spoils.

And while McGlashan was pleased with his side's overall performance against a team he believes are the "ones to beat" this season, he has called upon his men to turn displays on their travels into stronger results at Gayfield.

He said, "They are very strong going forward and have some terrific players, especially in an attacking sense.

"That being the case I think that our players played very well. They enjoyed the game and with a wee bit of luck might have snatched all three points.

"But, that said, both teams had chances to snatch it. "I'm a bit disappointed that we lost the lead after going ahead twice but if I'd been offered a point before the game I'd have taken it.

"What we need now though is a win at home. That is crucial if our success is to be judged.

"We've had two good results away from home but now we've got two home games and we need to repeat these kinds of performances at home if we are to keep away from the bottom of the league and up at the top."

STIRLING have ended the first quarter of the campaign five points clear at the top of Division 2, but manager Allan Moore was unhappy with this result.

In a game of four headed goals, Bryan Scott twice gave Arbroath the lead - but Scott Robertson then David McKenna levelled before the interval.

Brechin can move to within two points of the league leaders by beating struggling Peterhead at Balmoor tomorrow night and Moore, whose side go to Stenhousemuir on Saturday, said: "These are the sort of games you need to win if you want to win the league.

"We were twice behind at Dumbarton and got away with it and we managed to get a draw out of this one, but if it hadn't been for poor defending we would have had all three points. It was two free headers they scored from and that's not acceptable. It's only a few weeks ago we had the best defensive record in Britain but we have picked up a habit of losing the first goal and it's a habit the players better get out of."

Arbroath have a terrific record at Forthbank with just three defeats in 14 visits and they were ahead in seven minutes when Scott scored with a superb header from Steven Rennie's cross. Robertson - drafted in after Ross McCord was injured in the warm-up - equalised four minutes later when he nodded home an inswinging David O'Brien delivery.

In 16 minutes, Rennie's long throw caught out the home defence and Scott found the top corner, but yet another header hauled the Binos level in 33 minutes when McKenna superbly converted a Martin Grehan cross from a tight angle.

Arbroath manager John McGlashan said: "On another day we might have won the match, but we could have lost it as well. I've not seen such an open game all season - it could have been 4-4. Having played most of the teams so far - we finish our quarter against Clyde on Wednesday - Stirling Albion look to be the real deal. They are a good team in all areas and it will take a lot to stop them. That's us played Alloa and Stirling in our last two away games and taken four points so we have to be happy with that. If we can beat Clyde we will be into the top half."

LIVID Allan Moore blasted his dozy defenders for letting Arbroath escape with a point. The Binos boss blamed his dodgy back line for the setback as the leaders were forced to equalise twice to earn a draw.

Moore said: "No disrespect to Arbroath but we should be winning our home games. We had defenders not marking and gifted them the lead twice. That's my main concern because it could cost us the league at the end of the season - we must pick up inside the box and defend properly."

The visitors went ahead in seven minutes when Steven Rennie's surging run ended with a great cross for Bryan Scott to nod past Myles Hogarth.

Arbroath's lead only lasted four minutes as midfielder Scott Robertson got on the end of David O'Brien's inswinging delivery to power home a header.

Scott bagged his double in 16 minutes when he met Rennie's long throw into the box to loop a header over Hogarth. But David McKenna put Binos back on terms as he nodded in a Martin Grehan cross just after the half-hour.

Arbroath gaffer John McGlashan said: "It was an open game and we're more than happy to come away with a point."
