Getting the late breaks
From the Sunday Mail: Arbroath 2 Albion Rovers 1: Lichties leave it late to snatch win
DESPITE taking the three points, boss Paul Sheerin told his troops he expects to see an improvement in future performances.
ARBROATH boss Paul Sheerin said his side needs to improve despite their victory against basement club Albion.
The Lichties grabbed the lead in 19 minutes when striker Derek Holmes hit home a Colin Hamilton cross from the left.
But Albion drew level eight minutes later when Cieran Donnelly headed into the net from a Gary Phillips corner.
Rovers were unable to cope with the sustained pressure in the closing stages and when Donnelly appeared to handle in the box in 94 minutes, Steven Doris stepped up to dispatch the winner from the penalty-spot.
Sheerin said: “We were as poor as we’ve been in a long time and lacked quality.
“We definitely got the break with the penalty decision but the performance throughout the course of the game was very average.
“I can’t fault their effort and desire but we definitely have to improve the quality.”
Albion Rovers manager Todd Lumsden said: “I fail to see how the referee could give a penalty with the players so close to each other – that decision has cost us three points.
“It’s bitterly disappointing given our performance.”
