From today's Courier

Montrose manager Jim Weir was fuming after his side slipped up against local rivals Arbroath in the latest Angus derby at gale-lashed Gayfield on Saturday.

their 5-0 New Year drubbing at Links Park by grabbing a hard-earned three points which edged them to within four points of the visitors in the race for the play-offs, but with two games in hand.

Weir said, "We should have had a penalty in the first half when the ball hit an Arbroath player's hand.

"It was heading for the net and I can't understand why the referee didn't give it. It was a key decision.

"On another day we might have taken something from the game as we hit the crossbar and had another couple of decent chances.

"But we don't have the mental toughness to grind out a result at the moment and we'll have to pick ourselves up as we've got some tough games ahead.

"We're still in with a shout, but if we continue to gift goals it will be an uphill battle."

I never saw any close call penalty decision. But Weir's no different to most of his players who whinged on most of the second half Saturday, leading to Hill's caution.
