Paul Sheerin insists Lee Erwin could be in the frame for a quick return to Motherwell after a stunning debut double sealed the points for Arbroath.

The striker bagged two long-range strikes to put the Angus men two up in the first half just 24 hours after signing a one-month loan deal from Well.

Brechin battled back in the second half and Bobby Barr’s deflected goal put the hosts under pressure with Steven Jackson’s free-kick crashing off the bar.

Arbroath boss Sheerin said: “It’s an impressive debut from Lee and he showed he can play a bit with his goals.

“It’s early days yet but he looks like he could do a real job for us. The only problem is that if he continues playing like that we may not be able to keep him.”

Brechin gaffer Ray McKinnon said “We were undone by a couple of wonder goals from a young lad who looks like he could go on to be a top striker.”
