So near and yet so far.    Arbroath's points total in Div 2 in 2009/10 was not far adrift of their tallies in the same league over the past decade or so

Going into the lottery of the playoffs was down to inferior goal difference yet two other teams conceded more goals and we scored more than two others.  Our poor record against our immediate challengers – Stenny, East Fife – made all the difference but you can probably look to key games over the season when we were on top yet didn’t make it count (at Clyde in December, at home to Stenny and Alloa in the run in)
