The Bully Wee earned an important three points in Ladbrokes League 2 this afternoon, thanks to a hard-fought away victory at Gayfield.

There was one change to the line-up following Tuesday night's win at Stirling Albion, with Marvin Andrews replacing the suspended Mark McLaughlin in defence. Jon-Paul McGovern also returned to the bench following a family bereavement.

The first chance of the match fell to John Gemmell, but the forward's header went straight into the arms of well-positioned home 'keeper Allan Fleming. At the other end, Marc Waters did well to get across and push away a header from an Arbroath corner.

Michael Bolochoweckyj then had the ball in the net, but it was ruled out for offside.

Soon after that, a long range shot by Sean Higgins could only be blocked by Fleming and from the rebound it looked certain that David Marsh would score, but the home goalie pulled off a superb save to claw the ball away from the line.

Darren Ramsay came close to putting the hosts ahead on the half hour mark, but he couldn't quite squeeze the ball in at the post.

With 34 minutes on the clock, a long ball upfield resulted in a tussle between David Gormley and Ricky Little, with Gormley eventually going down as he seemed to be through on goal. The referee blew for a foul and then had no option but to send Little off for preventing a goalscoring opportunity. From the subsequent free-kick, Scott Linton forced Fleming into another good stop.

Gormley was then in the thick of the action as half-time approached, first putting the ball wide from inside the box and then going strongly into a tackle to win possession in the middle of the park. Unfortunately referee Colin Steven decided that the challenge was dangerous and evened up the numbers by showing Gormley a red card.

The second half featured less chances on goal, but The Bully Wee were first to threaten when Marsh's header was saved, Higgins tried to get on the end of the loose ball on the line and Marsh eventually missed the target when the ball came back out to him.

However, after 72 minutes, Clyde did score. A cross from the right by Higgins led to Linton putting Craig Wilson under pressure at the far post and that forced the Arbroath defender into an error as he put a looping header over the goalkeeper and into the net.

Seconds later, The Red Lichties could have levelled the scores but Scott Durie was in the right place to block a goal-bound effort, even if he knew little about it.

With time running out, Slane almost sealed the victory when he carried the ball into the box, but his shot was pushed away by Fleming.

In injury time, Arbroath forced one final chance to take something from the match, but Bobby Linn's shot hit the side netting and a third win in succession was confirmed for The Bully Wee.
